The Kenya National Association of Probation Officers (KNAPO) was founded in 1976 by serving Probation Officers. It is registered by the Registrar of Societies.

KNAPO was established with the goal of addressing the incidence of crime and deviance among young and adult offenders. Since inception the association has steadily grown to being the professional and welfare association for all aspiring, practicing and retired Probation Officers. Currently, KNAPO has eleven (11) branches all over Kenya with its National Secretariat based in the Capital City.
